Empassion is one of the most impactful and exciting start ups in health care. We are focused on improving the experience and lowering costs for seniors at end of life. Specifically, we provide palliative and hospice care for seniors with serious illness and high risk of an over-medicalized death. This population is highly neglected in the current market.
Empassion clients are payers and risk-bearing entities and we work with community palliative and hospice partners to deliver superior outcomes. We are live today across 44 states and growing rapidly.
About the role:
As a Technology Lead, you will efficiently service business operations and growth and be a strong leader for the team. You will join a dynamic team of leaders who are focused on improving the lives of seniors with serious illness.
You like to get stuff done! You will create and execute on complex project plans and prioritize activities with the Leadership Team. You will lead the Technology team to ensure alignment around scope and prioritization of activities and deliver timely, high-quality results. You will be structured and focused to enable parallel work on multiple projects. You will manage your team with respect and help them deliver their best work. You will lead meetings to help the team meet objectives, make decisions, and identify next steps.
The Technology Lead will report directly to the Vice President of Operations, a healthcare leader with 15+ years experience in clinical and market operations, strategy, growth and partnerships. This position will require you to be an individual contributor and to manage a small team of Engineers, a Dev Ops Lead and an Infrastructure Manager. You will work cross-functionally to coordinate with Data & Analytics, Growth and Ops teams.
Empassion is a remote company, fully distributed across the United States. We prioritize asynchronous work and communication but are quick to get on a call, Zoom, or even flight if the situation requires higher fidelity discussion. You will have the opportunity to spend time with colleagues in person, including monthly meetings in NYC and an all-team offsite 1-2x per year (location varies).
Why you belong here and how you will grow:
You are hard working, technically strong with direct experience coding and with data infrastructure and will manage complex projects for the team that are critical to Empassion’s growth and success. You are a strong communicator with a bias to action and are comfortable finding quick short-term solutions to confirm market needs before building for scale. This position will allow you to think creatively to overcome challenges, build on your existing skills as an Engineer, enhance your value-based care expertise, and contribute to the successful operation and growth of our business.
We are dedicated to cultivating relationships built for trust and meaningful experiences that promote your growth. We recognize the value of autonomy, flexibility, and ownership while keeping sight of the importance of real-life experiences. We do not accept anything less than respectful, supportive, and growth-oriented teammates.

What success looks like

  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve the quality of our products and services
  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, members of the leadership team, and external partners
  • Establish and reinforce best practices for successful scoping, prioritization, and execution within the Technology org
  • Conduct retrospectives upon completion of projects to improve future projects

What you will bring

  • 5+ years of experience in Engineering and managing a team, preferably in value-based healthcare.
  • A track record of scoping, developing and managing complex projects as well as a diverse set of stakeholders across multiple functional areas.
  • You are comfortable working as both an individual contributor and a team manager.
  • You have a can-do attitude and a strong sense of personal accountability to deliver results.
  • You are comfortable finding short-term solutions and assessing the market before building for scale.
  • You are a strategic thinker who is passionate about leading projects and delivering results.
  • You are an excellent communicator and respectful of your colleagues, and you thrive in a fast-paced team environment.
  • You have experience working in ambiguous, often changing and high growth environments.
